ML - MULTIMEDIA & WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
 

(Open only to members in grades 6-9 who have affiliated middle level division.)

 

This event recognizes FBLA members who have an understanding of principles of multimedia and website development.

 

The event has two portions.  A prejudged project will be submitted prior to the State Conference and an objective test will be taken at the State Conference.  In order to be eligible for an award, a member must participate in both portions of the event.

 

The 30-minute objective test will consist of items related to career awareness related to multimedia and website industry, technology operations and concepts, visual design concepts, animation techniques, gaming, digital audio, web technologies, and graphic design.

 

The topic for the prejudged portion will be published in the National Chapter Management Handbook and the State Adviser Briefings.

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

Only members enrolled in grades 6 through 9 and affiliated middle school division as of December 15 of the current school year are eligible for this event.

 

Participants must have paid state and national dues postmarked by December 15 of the current school year.

 

District:        Number of participants governed by local FBLA District policy.

 

State:          Each district may be represented by participant(s) based on the Florida FBLA scaled quota system. 

 

National:     See national competitive event guidelines at www.fbla-pbl.org.  Florida may send one student to compete on the national level.

 

REGULATIONS

 

District:        Each district determines its own procedures for event registration.

 

State:          When it has been determined that a student will represent the district at state competition, the student's local adviser must send the appropriate entry and form to the state adviser as instructed in the SLC registration packet.  The entry form and the required postmark deadline are included in the SLC registration packet.

 

National:     See national competitive event guidelines at www.fbla-pbl.org.

 

• Participants must be selected in accordance with the regulations of the FBLA district and state chapters and the national association.

 

• Participants must not have entered this event at a previous National Leadership Conference or placed 1st in this event at a previous State Leadership Conference.

 

• Participants failing to report on time may be either disqualified or permitted to begin late with no extension of the time as scheduled. 

 

• The prejudged portion is a website that must include a 1-3 minute multimedia presentation.  The website must include sound, photo and image editing, and graphics.  The website must include at least one activity with user interaction (i.e. survey, game, etc.). This portion will constitute 85 percent of the final score.

 

• Participants must provide their own No. 2 pencils and erasers.  Nongraphing calculators will be provided.   No reference materials, electronic devices, or other items are to be brought to the event.

 

• Participants must adhere to the dress code established by the Board of Directors or they will not be permitted to participate in the competitive event.

 

JUDGING

 

The website will be submitted prior to the State Leadership Conference according to the directions in the SLC packet.  

 

Tests will be machine graded. In the event of a tie, the students’ performance on the final ten questions of the exam will be evaluated.  After that, if necessary, the order in which the tests were received will be used.  The objective test will constitute 15 percent of the final score.

 

AWARDS

 

District:        The number of awards presented at the District Leadership Conference is determined by local FBLA District policy.

 

State:          State awards for the top five places are presented at the State Leadership Conference.

 

National:    The number of awards presented at the National Leadership Conference is determined by judges and/or number of entries.  The maximum number will be two.
