FLORIDA FBLA-PBL
STATE ADVISER UPDATE
October 19, 2009

Fall Activity Day.  Animal Kingdom was fantastic!  It was extremely hot that day, but the park is full of trees so it was bearable.  I saw many of our members and advisers having a great time.  Please mark your calendars for our February activity day to be held on February 27.  More information will be coming next month.

State and National Fall Conference.  The registration deadline for our state and national Fall Conference is just around the corner—October 23! Please get your registrations in.  I know I have spoken to many of you about this wonderful opportunity, but I have not received many registrations yet.  I have attached another copy of the state forms for your convenience.

Competitive Events.  Don’t forget as your students are preparing for district and state competitions, they need to be sure that they are using the most up-to-date state guidelines.

Topics for the middle school, high school, and postsecondary level were attached to the August 30, 2009, update.  They are also available on the state web site (www.floridafbla-pbl.com).  Be sure to locate these on the home page by scrolling down to the News/Updates section.

Fund Raising.  Remember as you are looking at options for raising funds for your chapter, please take a look at the fund raising partners in the national Chapter Management Handbook.  Florida FBLA-PBL receives royalties from sales with these companies.

BAA, CMAP, and MAP.  Each year we talk about these important programs.  They include activities (many of them that integrate FBLA-PBL into your curriculum) that most of your members are already doing.  Why not allow them to be recognized for their efforts?  Please take a look at these programs today.

ACTE Outstanding Business Education Student Awards. Phi Beta Lambda students took all five of the top awards in the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Post-Secondary Division for the Outstanding Business Education Student Awards. Students are judged in the categories of career and technical student organization leadership and involvement, other leadership roles in school and in the community, awards/honors, career plans, and an essay.  We are proud to announce that one of the five recipients is Florida’s own, Yanyn San Luis.  Congratulations, Yanyn!

American Enterprise Day.  Entrepreneurship, capitalism, and economic growth are all topics of interest for people in today’s changing business world. Former President Jimmy Carter once said, “The American free enterprise system, the cornerstone of our nation’s economy, has endured and flourished for more than 200 years. It provides us with one of the highest standards of living in the world, and guarantees freedom of choice in a way that sets us apart among nations. It is a system that depends upon and rewards initiative and innovation; a system that offers opportunities to Americans from all walks of life; a system whose benefits accrue to each of us.”

On August 8, 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation declaring November 15 American Enterprise Day. Since the 1980 signing of this proclamation, American Enterprise Day has grown to generate activities that promote free enterprise concepts throughout the membership year.

There are many different ways to celebrate American Enterprise Day on November 15 and throughout the year. Your local chapter could tour a business, attend a Chamber of Commerce meeting, or set up a booth in a common area and distribute literature about American Enterprise Day and FBLA-PBL. Meet with your officers and start your planning now!

The Big 10.  Each week, the “Big 10” local chapter weekly ranking will be posted on the national ML, FBLA, and PBL Division pages. This ranking is based on paid members. Check out the weekly posting each Monday!  Congratulations to William T. Dwyer who is currently ranked as number 4 on the FBLA page.  Come on ML and PBL, let’s get our schools listed!
