mS video game challenge

Video Game Challenge provides members with the opportunity to develop and present a video game they’ve created. This competitive event consists of a presentation component where the game is presented to the judges.

2023-2024 Topic

Create an animated game, in any programming language or game/animation engine, with keyboard and/or mouse input. The game must be playable on a PC or Mac.

District

State

Eligibility

·         FBLA membership dues are paid by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on December 1 of the current school year.
·         Members may compete in an event at the State Leadership Conference (SLC) more than once if they have not previously placed in the top ten of that event at the National Leadership Conference (NLC). If a member places in the top ten of an event at NLC, they are no longer eligible to compete in that event.
·         Members must be registered for the SLC and pay the state conference registration fee in order to participate in competitive events.
·         Members must stay in an official FBLA hotel in order to compete.
·         Each district may be represented by participant(s) based on the Florida FBLA scaled quota system found on the Florida FBLA website.
·         Each competitor can only compete in one individual/team event and one chapter event (Annual Activities, Community Service Project).
·         Each competitor must compete in all parts of an event for award eligibility.
·         Only competitors are allowed to plan, research, prepare, and set up their presentations.
·         All members of a team must be from the same school.

Recognition

·         The number of competitors will determine the number of winners. The maximum number of winners for each competitive event is 5.

Event Administration

·         This event is pre-judged only on the state level.

·         Pre-judged program

o   The participant must choose a programming language or game/animation engine to create a stand alone executable program that will display creativity, programming skill, and convey the message of the topic.

o   Use of templates is permitted; however, the final product should demonstrate the competitors’ creativity and original thought. If templates are used, they must be

o   The completed project must be uploaded to one of the following cloud based storages, Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox. You cannot host the project on your own server or website. You must provide a link to your project and directions on how to open and run the code. It should not be password protected. Your completed project must be uploaded and locked by the date specified in the State Leadership Conference Registration Packet.  You cannot make any changes to the project after the deadline. You will submit the link to your project through the Statement of Assurance form as specified in the State Leadership Conference registration packet.  

o   Competitors are responsible for ensuring the usability and functionality of their project.

o   Any photographs, texts, trademarks, or names used must be supported by proper documentation and approvals indicated on the project.

o   The program must contain the following, at a minimum:

o   Must be graphical in nature, not text based.

o   An initial title page with the game title, user interface control instructions, and active buttons for Play and Quit.

o   A quit command programmed to the escape key.

o   The game must be compatible with a Windows 7 or newer operating system.

o   Game must be free of viruses/malware.  Any entry with contaminated data will not be judged.

o   Program produced must be prepared by the participant(s) without help.

Scoring

·         The preliminary presentation score will determine the finalists.
·         The final presentation score will determine the winners.
·         Judges must break ties. All judges’ decisions are final.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

·         FBLA meets the criteria specified in the Americans with Disabilities Act for all competitors with accommodations submitted through the conference registration system by the registration deadline.

Recording of Presentations

·         No unauthorized audio or video recording devices will be allowed in any competitive event.
·         Competitors in the events should be aware FBLA reserves the right to record any presentation for use in study or training materials.

Penalty Points

·         Competitors may be disqualified if they violate the Competitive Event Guidelines or the Honor Code.
